Local R7-252 Holds Raffle for Member with Cancer

Members of Local R7-252 Community Care Ambulance (CCAN) have spent the last several weeks raising money for a colleague with breast cancer using various collective efforts, including a local raffle drawing.

As CCAN EMT Tiffine Sizemore completed chemotherapy and began prepping for surgery to treat her breast cancer this year, her coworkers decided it was now time that they band together to take care of her.

The Local accomplished this as they came together along with The Corner Bar in Austinburg, Ohio to organize a special benefit drawing of tickets at the restaurant last week. Tickets could be purchased for $20 for a chance to win the pot of $500.

The event, which was made possible thanks to the hard work of the Local, CCAN employees, and the local restaurant and its patrons, raised nearly $3,000. These proceeds went towards Sizemore to support her treatment; additionally, the winner of the $500 pot chose to donate his winnings to Sizemore as well.

Local R7-252 President Leeann Wofford said that the money raised by the event was enough to cover a month’s wages for Sizemore, and that the group is also organizing a PTO donation drive to cover the six weeks of recovery time she will need.

We are thankful for the success of this event!” President Wofford wrote in an email. “This is what happens when people come together for a common goal. Reinforcing the belief in unification and teamwork.”

The IAEP wishes Sizemore the best in her fight and looks forward to her speedy recovery.

“When people are moved in their hearts and make up their minds to help one another, amazing things can happen. We extend our thanks to everyone who made this a success,” wrote President Wofford.
